Food! Glorious Food! : Authentic Hainanese Curry Rice

People living around Tiong Bahru should have noticed this pretty old store, tucked away right at a corner of Tiong Bahru old town, is this lone coffee shop of the 60s or 70s.

The coffee shops seems to be dominated by a one and only curry rice store, which probably due to business considerations, not only limiting themselves to selling curry rice, but every other dishes that you can find in any typical zi cha stall.

Of course being an authentic curry rice eater, naturally we ordered some curry rice, as well as the fantastic, sore throating-saving, refreshing lime juices to counter the weight and might of the curry.

The curry is served in these big plates, with fired cutlet style chicken on top. Let me tell you, the chicken is fantastic. There has got to be some secret recipes that they used to season the chicken. It is fantastic even without the curry.

The curry tasted quite good and is totally not hot. Typically hainanese style, whereby the curry isn't really that hot, or even not hot at all, and serves is role as a kind of cross between soup and sauce for the rice. The curry is fantastic! You will never taste such curry at any other places. Not Indian, Chinese, or Malay style curry. The taste must be due to the little herbs that dot the curry. Little mint like leaves scattered and well mixed all over the curry.

Fantastic. You got to try it. And that lime juice of course.
